There are three different categories for Canada student visa:
#1. SDS (STUDENT DIRECT STREAM)
SDS Program which streamlines the process for Philippines, Vietnam, China & India. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) Program is a program that will speed up the processing for the full-time studies attending universities and colleges in Canada.
SDS PROGRAM – CANADA STUDENT VISA REQUIREMENT: Students applying for a program under SDS must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Admission to a full-time program in publicly-funded post-secondary institution such as universities, colleges, institutes or CEGEP
- An IELTS score with minimum band of 6.0 for each module(Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) taken within past two years
- Purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from Scotiabank/ICICI Bank of Canada/HSBC/SBI Canada Bank and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce of CAD$10,000 to cover living expenses for the first year of stay in Canada
- Proof of payment of the tuition fee for one (1) year
- Upfront medical examination at least one week before the submission of the application.

#2. NON-SDS PROGRAM – CANADA STUDENT VISA REQUIREMENT:
Students applying for a program under NON- SDS must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Admission to a full-time program in a publicly-funded post-secondary institution such as universities, colleges, institutes or CEGEP
- An IELTS score with a minimum band of 6.0 with no bands less than 5.5 taken , TOEFL with 79 Internet based and PTE 51-58 within the past two years
- Purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from Scotia bank/ICICI Bank of Canada/HSBC/SBI Canada Bank and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce of CAD$10,000 OR Education loan of CAD $10,000 to cover living expenses for the first year of stay in Canada
- Proof of payment of the tuition fee for one (1)semester
- Upfront medical examination at least one week before the submission of the application.
- Bank savings, IT returns, other investments and education loan is considered as part of Fund. The basic difference between SDS and Non SDS is the requirement of proof of funds
#3. UNIVERSITY – CANADA STUDENT VISA REQUIREMENT:
Students applying for a program under University must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Admission to a full-time program in universities only
- An IELTS score with a minimum band of 6.0 with no bands less than 5.5 taken , TOEFL with 79 Internet based and PTE 51-58 within the past two years
- Purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from Scotia bank/ICICI Bank of Canada/HSBC/SBI Canada Bank and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce of CAD$10,000 OR Education loan of CAD $10,000 to cover living expenses for the first year of stay in Canada
- Proof of payment of the tuition fee for one(1) semester
- Upfront medical examination at least one week before the submission of the application
- Bank savings, IT returns, other investments and education loan is considered as part of Fund. The basic difference between SDS and Non SDS is the requirement of proof of funds
Processing Time for Canada Student Visa:
For student visa applications done under the SDS program the processing time is 45 days or less. On the other hand, for Non SDS & University applications the processing time is 60 days on an average. The actual time may vary depending upon the volume of applications at Consulates or High Commission.
